If you’re in Miami hoping to escape the packs of drunken werewolves, ‘sexy’ witches, and kids running high on a sugar-buzz, then fear not, the Florida capital of cool has plenty to offer the discerning visitor, no fake blood or vampire teeth necessary. We’ve put together a list of the essential places to soak up the charm of this Art Deco city in October, where you can forget about trick-or-treaters, and focus on the sea, sand, and irresistible buzz of the sunny South East.

EAT

Miami is experiencing an incredible upsurge in simple, fresh fusion food at the moment, with one particular gem appearing on GQ’s ‘50 Best Things to Eat’ last month. Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink (130 NE 40th St) made it to the list for their take on hominy (fluffed up fried corn, a southern speciality), which is crisp, spicy, and extremely addictive. With a menu that changes daily based on seasonal offerings, you’re bound to find lots more satisfying snacks. Take a seat on the outdoor terrace and dig in.

DRINK

No matter how much you may want to avoid the people watchers and playboys of South Beach, a visit to the boardwalk is a must on a trip to Miami. But keep it classy at the rooftop pool of the Gansevoort South (2377 Collins Avenue) and sip a SoBe Carnival (cachaça, pineapple juice, and muddled basil). You’ll have a great view of the turquoise ocean and the charming, faded hotels that line the famous beachfront.

SEE

If lounging by the pool for a week isn’t your cup of tea, then take to the streets of this colorful city with History Miami, who organise fascinating walking tours of Little Havana, Downtown, The Miami River, and even an off-the-beaten path tour of the graffiti of Wynwood. The casual atmosphere means you can ask questions along the way, and joining a group is the perfect way to meet people (drinks at a rooftop bar aferwards?)

STAY

Call us biased, but we think that the best way to experience a city is with your own exclusive suite or apartment – something spacious, with the personality and style lacking in most hotels. But don’t take our word for it, check out these gorgeous offerings, just a stone’s throw from all the best Miami has to offer.
