Ok, so we’re a little biased because we rent such amazing furnished apartments there, but we really think that whatever your situation, Mexico City is a great choice – now more than ever. Here’s why:
Working? Business is booming in Mexico City, with no shortage of multinational companies with offices in DF (Distrito Federal, What locals call the capital city).Telecommunications networks are excellent, costs are low for startups, and although traffic can still be heavy, getting around the city with or without a car is still very doable. Business travellers can opt for skyscraper hotel chains, historic boutique offerings, or modern furnished apartments. Great neighbourhoods for setting yourself up include Napoles, Polanco, Lomas Altas and Santa Fe
Retiring? If you’d like to spend your golden years surrounded by history, culture (there are no fewer than 175 museums in the city), interesting cuisine, world-class shopping and a reasonable cost of living, then you’re on the right track with Mexico City. The metro system is excellent, pollution has been cut in half since the 1990s, and non-stop flights to destinations like Shanghai and Paris now operate out of the International Airport.
Extended Vacation? Great choice. Leave the tacky shooter bars of Cancun behind for a real glimpse of this exciting urban metropolis. There are so many galleries, museums, dance shows and theatres to visit, not to mention a vibrant dining scene that often makes the world’s top ten lists. And as for safety? Mexico City’s crime rate is now about ⅓ that of Washington D.C.s.
