Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st? Sipping champagne on the Champs Elysees? Or maybe watching the ball drop in Times Square? Whatever you decide, you’ve got less than a month to plan the ultimate New Year Trip – so check out our guide and get busy booking!

  • New York: Probably the first place you think of when you think of NYE celebrations. If you can get a ticket for the world-famous Times Square bash great, but if not, think about booking the Harbor Cruise, watching fireworks from the Brooklyn Bridge, or attending one of the many Black Tie events in the city’s luxury hotels. Just being in the Big Apple on Jan 1st is certain to be a good start to the year!
  • Miami: Prefer to be warm this New Years? How about a Miami-style party on South Beach? Head to Lummus Park at 8th St. and Ocean Dr. in South Beach for a party on the beach from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., including live music and fireworks at midnight.
  • Paris: If you’re over the whole ‘fireworks and clubbing’ scene, and you’re thinking of a romantic, classy New Years, then head to Paris, where you can gaze up at the sparkling Eiffel Tower light show, pass by the crowds on the Champs Elysees, and ring in the New Year with a glass of champagne at one of the bars at the Sacre Coeur plaza in Montmartre.
  • London: England’s capital has a NYE celebration to rival any other city, and hundreds of thousands of people gather on the banks of the river Thames to watch performers, fireworks, and a lively countdown at the Big Bed Tower.
  • Hong Kong: Believe it or not, the glittering ‘ball drop’ has also become a tradition in Hong Kong, a city that goes crazy on Dec 31st. You’ll see one of the world’s best pyrotechnic shows, a sensory extravaganza of light and sound that includes an eight-minute fireworks show over Victoria Harbour. It’s foreign but familiar at the same time!
  • St Petersburg: For a truly classic New Year’s event, complete with twinkling lights and powdery snow, head to this Russian city, where revelers bundle up to admire fireworks above the partially frozen Neva River, and send hundreds of paper lanterns up into the night sky. It’s a magical sight that will stay with you forever.
  • Sydney: Sydney’s celebration lasts all day and into the night and is fun for the whole family, with an air and water show featuring thrilling aerial acrobatics and a fire tug water display, a Harbour of Light Parade (an illuminated flotilla of more than 50 vessels), and two fireworks shows—one at 9 p.m. and again at midnight.
  • Edinburgh: Party Scottish-style this New Year’s eve and sing “Auld Lang Syne” (written by a Scotsman) with the locals as you walk the cobblestone streets of Edinburgh on a torchlight procession. Their ‘Hogmany’ celebration lasts 4 days, and On the morning of January 1, you can head to the banks of the River Forth to watch a group of brave souls splash into the freezing water for an annual charity event.
  • Reykjavik: The party starts with community bonfires, meant to symbolize the burning away of the previous year’s troubles, and thousands of fireworks lighting up the sky from every corner of the city. For the best view, head to the Perlan, or Pearl, which offers a fantastic view of the city and hosts a New Year’s Eve party with dinner, drinks, and dancing. If you make it to 5 a.m., join the locals queuing up for hangover-helping hot dogs, or head to the hot springs for a rehydrating soak.
  • Valparaiso: The biggest New Year’s Eve show in Latin America takes place in Chile, at the Valparaíso harbour with a 20-minute fireworks show (launched from 17 different points along the coast between Valparaíso and Viña del Mar) and a dance party that lasts until the sun comes up. The festivities begin on the 28th, and by the 31st more than a million people have made their way to the city’s sandy shores for the beach party to end all beach parties.
